Our Story
-
Neighborhood Church
Springs of Grace Baptist Church began as a 1950s church plant called Sunset Acres Baptist Church that met in an old airplane hangar at the corner of Glenwick and Hearne (where the church still meets). That community of faith met the needs of a growing neighborhood in the heart of Shreveport.
-
Church Growth
During its first 40 years of life, the church built a sanctuary, various classrooms, and eventually a Christian Life Center with a gym.
-
New Name
Then in the 1990s, under the leadership of Pastor Rex Blankenship, Sunset Acres Baptist Church became Springs of Grace Baptist Church. The new name reflected the heart of the church as God’s grace continued to spring up in this place and water our community. Over the next 30 years, God showed his faithfulness to do exactly that again and again.
-
Neighborhood to the Nations
In 2005, straight-line winds removed the roof from the sanctuary and set the steeple in the middle of Hearne Avenue. Worship services relocated to the gym for two years while the church undertook major renovations. By God’s providence, this storm also allowed the church to pay off all mortgages. Springs of Grace continued to train interns, send out pastors, and support missionaries from the neighborhood to the nations.
-
Replanted
In 2023, as God called Pastor Jahill Richards back to Minneapolis, God was also calling Pastor Grant Rose back to his hometown of Shreveport. Springs of Grace is now a church replanted with a mission to see the Kingdom of God in Shreveport as it is in heaven. (Why replant? Click here.) But the core values of Springs of Grace Baptist Church remain unchanged: we are committed to the faithful preaching of the doctrines of grace as revealed in God’s Word.

We're Home
The Sunset Acres neighborhood has seen a lot of change economically, demographically, and spiritually. The beacon of God’s glory from 6300 Hearne Avenue may have changed over the past 70 years, but it has not moved. And we don’t plan on moving anytime soon. On August 11, 2024, Springs of Grace Baptist Church reconstituted and covenanted together as a Family.

Our Mission
Springs of Grace will stay driven and committed to being a church . . . for the Glory of God, the Good of the Church, and the Growth of the Kingdom.
