Jesus Christ himself is building the global Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Yet local churches will find themselves in seasons of growth, sustainability, or decline. These seasons aren’t based on attendance or church programs. But when a local body finds itself in decline over the course of years or decades, the work of replanting becomes necessary to preserve the proclamation of the gospel in the community where that church was originally planted.
Shreveport is a small city nestled in the northwest corner of Louisiana. It holds a diverse population of around 200,000 people made up of different cultures, backgrounds, and incomes. Ethnically, the city is about 58% Black or African American, 36% White, 3% Hispanic, and 3% other. But we rarely see this beautiful diversity reflected in Christ’s church during Sunday morning worship services.
A replanted church needs new vision. New leadership. New direction. New joy. But all this happens alongside celebration of old testimonies. Old memories. Old truths. And working through old challenges. As we labor in this work, God gets the glory He always intended to get from our church. And we get the joy that comes only from faithfulness to the challenging work God has set before us.
Springs of Grace knows that if the gospel takes root in our city, it must show us a picture of “all the nations” glorifying God together. We long to see this eternal reality TODAY!
